A very good film showing at your indie film houses...even some
of the 1st run film houses. I suspect there might be soem Oscar
buzz about this film. Juilie Chirsite shines here. I Know Steve
has recently watched Ryans Daughter & Dr. Zhivago so he has
seen Juile Christie when she was young & radiant. But I would
encourage allove you here at HTL to check this out.

First off this film ecshews the maudlin. The trite heart tuggin
schaltz of similar films subject matter. The acting is spot on.
the Driecting is form a young Canadian Sarah Poley...28. So
for you Great White North HTL members here's your chnace to
route for a countryman. She is an actress I've seen in the
    "Sweet Hearafter"

Basically it's the stroy of a wife going to a Nursing facility, her
"teddy bear' of a husband looking affer her well being & watching her
slip away...physically, emotionaly. affectionately & mentally.

    Damned fine performances all around.
Go see it or rent it. I'm a fan of Drama. I like
action & special effects like the next guy or gal.
but damn if I'm not a sucker for Human Drama.

I'd like to see this, but with my mother with medium to advanced Alzheimer's, I'm not sure I can sit through it. It's a pretty sensitive topic for me these days. I just hope my mom can remember who I am for a while longer.

Carl, I got a question ... would you by some chance have your monitor set to 800x600 ... or God forbid, 640x480? Just curious.

I've been hoping that this film would play in my county, but no luck so far. It's at a theater about 50 miles away. I may have to wait for the DVD. I think Christie is an early favorite for a Best Actress nomination.

Carl, have you seen The Secret Life of Words. It stars Sarah Polley and Tim Robbins. He plays an off shore oil rigger who suffered serious injuries in an accident. She is a Russian nurse who signs on to take care of him. She is reclusive and has some horrible secrets in her past. Robbins slowly coaxes her to talk about them. Beautiful acting in this drama.

Amazing- this is the same girl who starred in the "Dawn of the Dead" remake in 2004! I had no idea she was Canadian- or a director. Her IMDB profile is rather enlightening- an uber talented woman from an uber talented family. She also had 3rd billing in "Adventures of Baron Munchausen" (!) and played the title role in "Guinevere" from 1999 (which I've seen and loved!).

Sounds like The Notebook, without the schmaltz.
