This is a start of what I would like in HD DVD or possibly Blu as I will be bi at some point.

One I really want is Summer of 42. I would also like
    On Golden Pond
    Driving Miss Daisy
Ghost Dog The Way of the Samurai
Cannonball Run ( to go with Smokey and the Bandit)
I would also like The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas
    The Godfathers
Grease (Only so Nikki will stop saying she would like to see it in HD)
    Ferris Bullers Day Off

A lot of the movies you mention, David, have aired on HD Net Movies. There was a Kubrick festival--great stuff. Do The Right Thing, with its hot, saturated color scheme looked wonderful. So did Apocalypse Now Redux (which I fear will be the only version of the movie released).

In terms of my must-see HD movies, I would pick my favorites:

    It's A Wonderful Life
    Raiders of the Lost Ark
    Back to the Future
    Star Wars
It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World
    The Conversation
    Stop Making Sense

I already have the BTTF and Star Wars movies saved away on the TiVo. It will be nice to reclaim the disk space one day. :)

Ooo some great additions there Steve. How could I forget Patton or my other favorite Cinemascope film, Mad Mad world?

    Excellent additions Randy.

Larry (aka Steve): There are a few on that list that are actully worthy, like The Last Samurai, Magnolia, Interview with the Vampire, and Born on the Fourth of July. :)

Actually, I would add Minority Report to that list--the HBO-HD presentation looked fantastic considering the color scheme and scenic design.

The Last Samurai was one of the launch titles for HD DVD last year.

That looks a heck of a lot like a Criterion list.

Last Samurai: Trite, dreadful acting, but mlldy entertaining

Inteview with the Vampire: One of the worst films I've ever seen. Not just painful to watch: sheer torture.

Born on the Fourth: Clearly, Cruise's best effort.

Interesting! I liked that film and felt Cruise put in a pretty darn good performance. Of course, I am a fan of Anne Rice's books which probably helped. Cruise did a very good job of becoming Lestat.

Despite our general similar taste in film, there was bound to be one in which we are diametrically opposed.

BTW, did you see the thread I started on Apocalypto?

If I was not a fan of the book I might feel the same as you about the film. Do you have some other titles to add to our list?

re: Apacalypto. Per the earlier thread I am refraining from commenting on that movie but yes, I saw yours. :)
