    Hey everyone,

I'm Michael Williams from Staten Island, NY. I am a PC/LAN Tech and I'm into home theater. Just bought my second home and I'm in the planning and design phase of my home theater so I thought I'd join this community so I can pick the brains of the enthusiasts out there.

Hope to become well acquainted with everyone and share ideas/thoughts.

    Michael Williams

UPDATE: For those interested, here's the actual CAD file. You'll need Google Sketchup 6 in order to view it.

I'll definitely post pics when I begin to build. Right now, all I have is a 3D CAD.

Thank you very much for the warm welcome. I feel at home already! I didn't think I'd ever meet other people into pics like I am! This is my bare bones basement. These are my plans:

I'm thinking a traditional look with crown, chair rail, baseboard and wall frame molding. 108" screen (too big?), Epson Powerlite Pro 1080 projector, Axiom speakers all around, Integra 9.8 (?) A/V receiver.

Any ideas guys? Keep in mind, I'm not wealthy! lol

Are you going to do 5.1 or 7.1? Assuming seating is going to go along the wall of the bathroom, 7.1 could be tough to implement well.

I'm thinking 5.2. I would LOVE to have 7.1 but that's stretching it.

Yeah, I'm actually not sold on the cost benefit of well implemented 7.1. I'm not saying there's no benefit, but if you do it right... I'm just not sure. For example right now I've got Gallo A'Diva Ti's for surrounds. I'm pretty sure the upcoming Gallo Strada's would sound better but I can't afford 4. So would a 5.1 with the Strada's sound better than 7.1 with the A'Diva Ti's? I suppose it depends on many factors, including how one defines "better". That said, in most smaller rooms 5.1 is all that is needed and is often easier to implement well. 5.2 is a misnomer as the Xes in X.X is supposed to identify the number of discrete channels and there are no soundtracks with 2 discrete LFE tracks. However, many people split the .1 and feed it to multiple subs. I have four subs but that doesn't make it 5.4, its just 5.1 with four subs.

Now that you have been here a few hours and feel comfortable,"Where's the IB going"?

You are absolutely right about the 5.2 ordeal...I just find it easier/quicker to say "5.2" as opposed to "5.1 with a split LFE feed". :D
