Something tells me that if the wings are touching mid flight, thats a bad thing.
It will never have a load where the wings would actually touch.
The good news is that under extreme unexpected pressure, the wings should bend and NOT break. The idea is that even under extreme circumstances, the plane should hopefully not break a wing (which turns a flying machine into a big hunk of falling metal).
Right, which I understand. I just fail to see why that particular feature should be pointed out.
And a plane with no wings is a worse thing. If the plane encountered that kind of stress in mid-flight, I'd think wings that would bend and touch but not break off, would be better than wings that would snap off.
Didn't you guys watch Superman Returns?
I suspect that if the wings got even to a 45* angle, the fuselage will have already begun to come apart.
I have no doubt that the amount of force required to force a dangerous amount of flex in a carbon-fiber wing significantly exceeds the the amount of force the would cause total failure of a normal metal spar wing. Flexible wings are a Good Thing. A wing that flexes will return to it's regular shape, a rigid wing will break.
Because some geek finds it cool to talk about and discuss.
Maybe they'll flap during flight for more efficient lift?
Let's just run the world by random internet vote. It should be required that voters are only allowed to vote on topics they have no clue about.
Babies will rock the vote if their random prods are coordinated!
I don't care if they make the wings out of jello pudding pops. Just leave on time and land on time. (I know. My expectations are unreasonable.)
Chris, is your sense of humor damaged or after seven years at HTT (which HTL is an extension of) have you still not learned how people approach off-topic subjects on internet forums?
I wonder what flying machines will look like in 100 years.
Ever heard of an ornothophter (sp?)?
Might not I ask the same of you?
Damnit! Sorry man...
Best post of the week!!!
