Sending mail overseas

So far the only mail I've ever sent overseas has been from a USN ship or command, and the only thing I need is one stamp for a regular envelope to send anywhere to the US from overseas.

I'm trying to cancel a phone contract that I have in Japan. I've filled out the cancellation form and need to send it to Japan from the US. Anyone know how many stamps I should put on it? Can I just drop it in my outgoing mailbox or do I need to take it to the post office?

Anyone have experience sending mail overseas from the US?

    Thanks

I suggest taking it to your post office, especially since all the postal rules have changed and it's no longer just by weight.
