Little Feat-Waiting For Columbus and Lynyrd Skynyrd-Southern By The Grace Of God[both cds]
Das Ich - Staub
Alan Parsons - A Valid Path (while stuck in traffic on Route 80 this morning)
Review from All Music:
Spinning Revolting Cocks earlier this week made me remember Lard. Another collaboration between Jello Biafra and Al Jourgensen, this time with the rest of Ministry in tow. More approachable than RevCo, more straight-ahead punk/industrial, with Jello's political wit and sarcasm spilling through. Recommended - if you can handle it.
Lard: The Last Temptation of Reid
Track Sample of "Forkboy"
I guess I might as well start the month off with Mr. Bibb again.
Eric Bibb ? Just Like Love (Opus3, LP)
Mike Patton's new disc. Very reminiscent of some of his work with Faith No More but fans of Mr. Bungle may not like it. I liked it on first listen and will spin it a few more times.
Hella, "There's No 666 in Outer Space"
I've seen these guys live and this recording, while good, does not capture the energy they produce on stage. Very progressive heavy metal noise rock. Interesting, worth checking out, especially if you like bands like System of a Down or Primus.
Emily Remler ? Firefly (Concord, LP)
Puccini - La Boh?me : Act 2 (London, LP)
I only listened to Act 2 tonight. How's that, Jack?
Listening to India.Arie, "Voyage to India". Very nice.
Harry Belafonte ? Belafonte Sings The Blues (LP)
Cannonball Adderly ? Why Am I Treated So Bad! (LP)
Louis Armstrong ? An Evening With Louis Armstrong and His All Stars in Concert (LP)
Enoch Light ? Big Band Bossa Nova: The New Beat From Brazil (LP)
Count Basie ? April in Paris (LP)
My latest purchase was Blue Alert by Anjani. She has a very hearthy voice. The songs are all Leonard Cohen poems set to music.
ELP-Tarkus[Shout Factory cd reissue]......the loudness wars continue even on this disc.
Ella Fitzgerald & Duke Ellington - Ella At Duke?s Place (LP)
Various Artists ? Jazz At The Hollywood Bowl (LP)
Hanson Brothers - Gross Misconduct
Songs about beer, women, and hockey in a Ramones style.
Dido - Life for Rent
I let my wife choose something for once.
Picked up this new release at lunch and spun it twice on the way home.
OK, this is good. Just as good as Audioslave, and I really liked Audioslave. A few throw-away tracks, but overall very good stuff. Highly recommended.
I haven't heard th new Cornell yet, but there is something about that guys voice listening to a whole album is really tough for me. I probably liked the Audioslave (Audioslave) album the best of the ones I listened to, and I really like that album, but Euphoria Morning, which my wife likes, is like nails on a chalk board to me. I might pick this one up for the wife and see how it is.
Oh, I probably liked Audioslave as much for Morello's guitar than anything else and I was always a big fan of Rage's sound.
All the Beatles talk in the other thread put me in the mood.
Hope to get to Sgt. Peppers, Magical Mystery, White, Abby Road and Let It Be tomorrow
Chris: interestingly one of the problems I had listening to any of the Audioslave albums WAS Tom Morello's guitar. I really appreciate his artistry, but I really don't like his playing. The new Cornell album is much more Soundgarden-like.
Different strokes, that's what's cool. I did like Soundgarden a bit, so I might like the new album.
Getting started today with some LPs from this weekends vinyl haul?
Jimmy Smith & Wes Montgomery ? Jimmy & Wes: The Dynamic Duo (LP)
Count Basie and The Kansas City 8 ? Get Together (LP)
