Thumbs up Anybody clay there car?

I just discover this process. At first I just thought, this is a bunch car maniac doing it. But after I did it all I can say is HOLY COW! I just became a huge fan. Wondering how to do it? This is how I learned > http://paintcare-n-detailing.com/clay.html

BTW, it wasn't hard at all. Very easy indeed.

Claying baring is simply amazing. Takes a good bit of time but what a finish afterwards!!! What do you use for a polish and wax?

I agree with Zak. I had my 17 year old Explorer fully detailed last year, including the clay bar treatment, and the results were stunning. Much better than just a wax and polish.

clay bar rule #1: if you drop the bar, throw it away.

other than that a bar and some quick detail spray is an amazing combo.

I got ahold of the griots version a while back. there stuff is expensive but awsome.

I clay my Element about once a year. It's easier than ppl think. Hell you can do it with soapy water . But when you do it you have to polish and wax immediately afterwards, you dont want to leave the finish exposed to the elements too long. Thats why I invested in a r/o polisher. Basically you can do a vehicle (polish and wax) in about 2 hours with one of those things. I get all my stuff from here http://autodetailingsolutions.com/. I am a big Meguiars fan and use their synthetic polymer wax. That stuff is a dream to use. Wipe on-Wipe off, no streaks.

I did my MINI and the wifes Toyota Sienna. It's amazing. My Eclipse is way to new to do something like that but in a few years...you bet. So worth the time and effort.

Actually Ron, you dont have to wait that long to do your car. If the car sat on the lot or was transported here, it was more than likely exposed to adverse conditions which would have an affect on your cars finish. I only had my Element about 3 months before I clayed it. Of course it sat on the car lot for who knows how long. In fact, doing it now would probably be better since you'll have a chance to protect the finish before anything can adversely affect it.

Ron, I agree with Steve. The clay bar treatment isn't like rubbing compound, it won't damage the clear coat or paint, just remove pollution and other contaminants that have settled on the car. Doing the treatment now and on a regular basis will help prevent long term damage to the clear coat and paint.

to remove swirls I used: Four Star Ultimate Scratch and Swirl Remover http://www.detailcity.com/four-star-...emover-18.html

To seal I used: Ultima Paint Guard Plus (UPPG) http://www.detailcity.com/ultima-pai...rd-plus-4.html

Both are phenomenal products but UPPG is unbelievable. Here is what people are talking about > http://www.autopia.org/forum/premium-finish-care/

autogeek.net is a good site for products and tips.

I use Megs clay, DP Max Wax/Megs NXT wax, Poorboys Sealant, Megs NXT car soap/Megs Gold Class soap, this for car wash, drying (this thing is awesome), Stoners invisible glass, and simple green when I need it.

Claying gets so much off the car that washing doesn't. (good to do before sealant/wax goes on. If you park near tracks or "industry" so much crap falls on your car (rail dust).

I clayed my SUV for the first time last week. I was impressed with the results - it looked waxed without waxing. Unfortunately, as soon as I finished....it started raining. And then, despite no rain in the forecast...it showered several times a day for the next few days. I guess I will have to wash and wax her again to see how it looks.

Today I clayed my wife's car. Her car is 8yrs old and is parked outside on the street, usually under trees. I washed the car first and then clayed it. I was shocked. My car is black so the dirt doesn't show as much, but hers is a metallic silver so as I clayed it, the dirt comes off and is quite obvious. I couldn't believe how much dirt there was. You could actually feel the difference in the surface where it was clayed and not clayed. The dirty surface actually felt like sandpaper. One thing I noticed (and it is pretty obvious) is that the horizontal surfaces (hood, roof, trunk) are much "dirtier" than the doors are. I finished it off with a coat of Meguires cleaner wax (I save the Gold wax for mine!). I think it looks as good, if not better than it did the day she bought it.

They claying process is easier than waxing in that there is no waiting and wiping, but it does take a while since the clay is so small....plus it requires a little bit of effort. Waxing is pretty easy if you have a power buffer.
