Sure the 805 maybe a huge bargin but I would take a 3808 any day of the week over it or the more expensive 875.

Thanks Max , im gonna look into a 3808

Where can I get the Rockets and I am gonna check out AV123 too.

Shane,
I wasn't saying he should look for the 3808 if he is looking for a $600 reciever, only that I don't like the comparison of the 805 to the 3808. The3808 is more closely aligned with the 875 or the 905. IMO.

Well I just got off the phone with Magnolia Hi-Fi,

the guy told me the best deal in the store right now
for receivers is a Pioneer Elite vsx-92txh, $799......

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU...vers/VSX-92TXH

He then told me Definitive Technologies and Monitor Audio
will have speakers I like in my price range for sure.

Give the Paradigms at Definitive Audio a listen as well. My relatives went through this process a few months ago and that's what they ended up with. Run through this thread, especially at post #7.

OK James, I was wrong and I'm happy about that! So since you can diy and need a sub and have your own house, where's the IB going? Superior to any box sub, plus, no box.

If I remember right back in the HTT days James went through a couple IB setups? Maybe with blueprint drivers or something like that. So he's no newbie to the IB scene!

James, if you're ok with refurbished ecost has the Denon 988 for right around $400 (MSRP $1100 retails for $600-$700). It's the same as the 2808 except (from Amazon review):that the 2808 supports 3 zone/3 source compared to 2 zone/2 source for 988 model; and 2808 also has a simple second remote; the rest of the amp is exactly the same as 988, just costs more!

I've got the 988 arrving at my house today. My buddy picked one up for $600 at the beginning of the year and has been raving about it since. So I figue I couldn't go wrong for $400.

That tree looks damn close to the house, it would have monster roots I'd expect. I'm assuming though you checked that all out.

Matt,

Funny you mention that, the inspector tole me to have an aborist out to look
at it and let me know if the roots could cause a foundation problem at some
point.
I did , the aborist told me that Redwood roots go straight down so it wont cause
a problem. Also he told me that in 60 years that redwood will be 13' in diameter.
I love my tree. :-)
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Eric, yep I had a few IB set-ups. Yes one with Blueprints.
Ive had some nice subs in my time. :-)

Thanks for that info, Ecost dont have any more 988s but they got a 3805.
that looks nice,
How old is that model?

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Randy , thanks
I will swing my Definitive Audio if I decide on that Pioneer Elite.

I have a 3806 that's a year and a half old, and it doesn't decode the new HD audio formats. That's probably something you'd want.

James, sorry I'm late to the party. Nice house! Is that an Element? My mom is thinking about one of those. She drives about 100 miles per day for work and needs something comfortable and easy on gas. She has an Intrepid now, but, wants to go a little more...fun?

As for receiver, are you going with the Elite? I'm another Onkyo fan. I have had several and doing homework on another one now. I need more "overhead" (Artie, shaddup) and I really want the built in sound level thingie.

What kind of speakers are you leaning towards now? When JeffC was over a few weeks ago he brought a pair of AV123 X-LS and wow, they were nice. They are currently sold out and now I understand why! After hearing those I'm re-considering going with AV123 but I also have a Paradigm system and another JBL system in mind.

One thing that really stood out about the X-LS was music seemed to float around them, it was not like the sounds were coming from the speaker, at all. Not like I'm used to hearing anyway... and for under $350 with a very attractive finish... This is with 24 awg speaker wire and my Onkyo 503 which I don't even like for 2 channel playback...

Good luck with the task at hand, I know it can be frustrating to find the perfect pieces, but, "Your patience will be rewarded" Alton Brown

If I was going to be buying an integrated amp/Reciever I'd probably have gone with the Elite brand. They make solid equipment.

James,
Actually the reason I like the 3808 so much and my 4308 is that they include an ehternet connection (The 4308 also has wireless built in) that allows you to access your receiver settings from your PC and it also allows you to view or listen to pictures, videos or music on your PC through your receiver as well as giving you access to internet radio stations which sound really awesome, much better then sirus or XM sound.

The 2808 does not have the internet radio. I am not sure if the 2808 does the OSD and video overlays like the 4308 and the 3808.

As for the pioneer, I would stick with the Onkyos over the pioneer as both the Onkyo and Denon units have Audsessy EQ which I feel is much better then the Auto EQ in the Pioneer or Yamaha and from the looks of your house this will help you out.

I wasn't really ragging on the Onkyo units they are great bang for the buck I just did not like the comparison of the 805 to the 3808 becuase the 3808 is really equal to the 905 which Onkyo was getting $1999 for or maybe you could compare it to the 875which is a touch cheaper then the 3808. That was all I was attempting to point out.

If I wanted a budget unit right now It would no doubt be the 805 because there are some prices out there that are real steals on it.

There are like 5 or 6 people here that have the 805 like Shane, CJ, and a few others so setup help should be easy to find.

Are you doing 5 or 7 speakers?

Sorry to drag this thread up but I just wanted to ad
that I just went to Amazon's website to see if they shipped
it yet. And I went by the 805 page to see they had lowered
the price to $599.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000OBJW1S

I called em up and am getting a $54 refund.
$599 for a >50lb receiver. nice!
Call me not that smart but when I shop for receivers the weight
is one of the first things I look at.
